The Kremlin saw media reports about Transnistria's plans to join Russia, but did not know what it is connected with, said the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.

“I don’t know what this is connected with, I don’t know what processes, that is, I can’t say anything,” — said Peskov.

Such plans were previously announced by the Foreign Minister of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vitaly Ignatiev in an interview with the agency. According to him, “the vector of Pridnestrovie has remained unchanged throughout all the years of the existence of the republic”, which is reflected in the results of the referendum of September 2006. Then 97% of the participants spoke for the independence of the republic and joining Russia. The authorities of the republic will act “pragmatically and honestly” and will not make decisions to the detriment of the people, he assured.

The head of Transnistria, Denis Krasnoselsky, said in May that the republic should be recognized peacefully, at the negotiating table.
